Description

Victor Talking Machine Gramophone -Antique Victorola VV VIII – Dist. by Berliner Canada

This gramophone is in very good original condition with a stunning finish on the case, intact transfer decals and branding plates, and a nice clean sound. There are a few spots of superficial damage on the casing of the unit, with a chip out of the veneer on the top tight cover of the cover, a small chip in the veneer on the right hand side of the right hand door, and a small chip just below it on the lower trim piece. The Victorola branding on the inside of the cover is bright and undamaged. There are two branding plates to the right of the reproducer arm, the first of which is the “Victor Talking Machine Co.” plate with the identification information “VV-VII 152767” and the other is the branding plate for “Berliner Gram-o-phone Co.” denoting that this gramophone was originally distributed to the Canadian market. The unit has a Victor No. 2 reproducer that is in very nice shape. The plate for the disc appears to have the original felting, though there is a spot (approx.. 2″x1/2″) were the felt has deteriorated. A record can still be placed on the plate without risk of damaging the record or impacting play back. The unit cranks nicely, and the switch for playback toggles properly. The doors open and shut smoothly and the internal fins that amplify the sound are all intact and undamaged. This gramophone has a fantastic sound, and would be an excellent addition to any collection, or a great way to start one. This is an antique item, and has not been refurbished, so some age wear is to be expected.
