Western Electric – Model 553 Wall Mount Telephone – Refurbished /w AE Handset

This telephone is in very good condition as it has been refinished. The case has a nice satin black finish, and the transmitter block-off plate has been painted in brass color. There are a few minor dents in the case, and a significant dent around the left side of the dial mount, which has caused the dial to be unlevel from left to right. The separate receiver and transmitter have been replaced in favor of an Automatic Electric AE Type 41 handset. It is possible that the switch to a handset was made while the phone was in service, however, the wiring would not be as new as the wiring seen for this handset. The dial, which has had its finger wheel painted brass as well, spins and re-centers as intended, however, the finger wheel is somewhat bent. The switch hook toggles as intended, and the phone appears to be intact internally. This is a vintage item, so some age wear is to be expected.
