Western Electric – Antique 20AL Candlestick Telephone – Resto-Mod

This telephone is in very good restored and modified condition. The base, shaft, transmitter and mount have all been painted to mimic a brass finish, and the receiver and transmitter spit cup are both reproductions. It appears that the restoration began with an empty Western Electric 20AL and the internals were replaced with reproductions, as all of the internals show signs of modern tooling. A different style of switch hook was used to accommodate these replacement internals, and the travel distance between the switch hooks on and off positions is much smaller. The switch hook is also very loose from left to right inside of the slot in the shaft. The transmitter appears to have the fittings for the number card attachment, though the transmitter has been placed to situate them under the spit-cup. The base has the original Western Electric Company stampings, and the associated patent dates. This phone would be a great option for parts, or as a basis for a more faithful restoration. This is an antique item, so some age wear is to be expected.
